Self-Injury

The act of deliberately hurting yourself falls under the terms of self-injury, self-mutilation and self-harm.  Many people who self-harm do not even know they are doing it.  For example, some people pinch themselves until they create a scar or pick at their toenails or fingernails until they bleed.  Self-Injury usually indicates that somewhere along the line, you didn't learn healthy ways of coping with overwhelming feelings. You're not disgusting or sick; you just never learned positive ways to deal with your feelings.
